How King Prepared Me for My Vocation

As part of King’s virtual Dogwood festivities and as a way of launching our “Reframing the Institutional Saga” grant from the Council for Independent Colleges, alumni from each decade since the 1950s discuss how King prepared them not just for a job, but for a vocation:

  • Bill Heizer ’58, retired gastroenterologist and Professor of Medicine at UNC
  • Nancy Cook ’68, Naval Sea Systems Command
  • Paul Montgomery ’74, formerly VP of Community and Corporate Relations at Eastman and now Senior Director of Legacy Planning at the Christian Medical and Dental Association
  • Maria Liston ’82, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Waterloo, with multiple publications on ancient Greek burials
  • Chhavi Sachdev ’98, journalist, podcaster, and producer at Sonologue in Mumbai, India
  • Calvin McRae ’07, VP for Public Policy at Greater Winston-Salem, Inc.
  • Sarah Bird ’10, Associate Pastor for Discipleship and Engagement at First Presbyterian Church, Nashville
