King University School of Nursing, Regional Consortium Partner on Girl Scouts Badge Event
BRISTOL, Tenn., Oct. 31, 2018 — King University’s School of Nursing is partnering with regional members of the Appalachian Consortium for Nursing Education and Practice (ACNEP) to sponsor an Introduction to Nursing badge event for members of the Girl Scouts Council of the Southern Appalachians (GSCSA). The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Mini Dome.
“We are excited about introducing this opportunity to Girl Scouts in the Appalachian community,” said Tracy Slemp, DNP, MSN, APN, FNP-BC, dean of the King University School of Nursing. “Each Scout will have the chance to ask questions, learn more about the nursing profession from regional nurses and nursing students, and develop a variety of health-related skills. We plan to cover a number of nursing topics, including basic First Aid, to how to prevent common illnesses and care for common problems, the importance of eating healthy, and more.”
Scouts will receive a custom-designed Explore Nursing fun patch for their participation, and will complete the requirements for their First Aid badge. They will also have the opportunity to earn additional health-related badges that are appropriate for their age and level of scouting, including the My Best Self badge for Brownie Scouts, Staying Fit badge for Junior Scouts, Eating for You badge for Cadette Scouts, and the Women’s Health badge for Senior Scouts.
Regional ACNEP partners participating in the event include Ballad Health, ETSU, Milligan College, Northeast State Community College, Tennessee College of Applied Technology, Tusculum University, Virginia Highlands Community College, and Walters State Community College.
The ETSU Mini Dome is located at 1081 John Robert Bell Drive, Johnson City, Tennessee, 37601.
