Dogwood Homecoming 2021 at Home

Please mark your calendars and save the date for Dogwood at Home on April 12-17, 2021.

Unfortunately, we do not feel that an on-campus gathering is safe at this time however, we are excited to announce many exciting and interactive virtual events including class reunions. We hope you will join us virtually to celebrate Dogwood Homecoming Weekend 2021. Information on all events is listed below. Questions please contact Jenna Christie at [email protected].

Monday, April 12

  • How King Prepared Me for My Vocation – 7:00 p.m.
    In conjunction with King’s “Reframing the Institutional Saga” grant, graduates from different professions discuss finding their vocation here at King. This will be an informative, fun, and interactive discussion with some beloved alumni of King.

Tuesday, April 13

  • A Conversation with John Van Dyke – 7:00 p.m.
    Alumnus John Van Dyke, a Navy chaplain who is about to be posted to the training and operations shop in the Chief of Chaplains Office for the Navy (at the Pentagon), has just published a book with the University of Tennessee Press, Poetic Creation: Language and the Unsayable in the Later Poetry of Robert Penn Warren. To celebrate this achievement, the King Institute for Faith and Culture presents a conversation with John Van Dyke and Brandon Story, Assistant Professor of English at King. This virtual conversation will feature prize copies of the book, and a chance to ask questions and interact with John.

Wednesday, April 14

  • Your University – 8:00 p.m.
    Alumni are invited to join President Alexander Whitaker for a Microsoft Teams Interactive Event as he provides various updates regarding King. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions to President Whitaker. Registration is required to participate.

Thursday, April 15

  • Bringing Campus to You – 6:00 p.m.
    Join Enrollment Counselor Leah Presley on a campus tour of the beautiful King University. Leah will show off new renovations around campus and give insight into buildings and spaces you may not have known before. Dogwood is a time where alumni enjoy coming back to campus so we thought to bring campus to you – virtually!

Friday, April 16

  • Virtual Poster Session – 12:00 p.m.
    Since 2012, King University Libraries has hosted an Undergraduate Research Poster Session to showcase students’ research in a variety of disciplines. Students interested in participating in the poster session submit proposals in February, and King’s librarians along with a group of King faculty review and select the top proposals for inclusion in the session. This year’s poster session will include research from Biology, Chemistry, Nursing, and Security and Intelligence Studies students.

  • Dogwood Homecoming Trivia – 7:00 p.m.
    Test your trivia skills in this interactive, family-friendly competition. Two rounds of virtual trivia will be played and there will be prizes for each round. Must have a smartphone, tablet, or computer to participate. (Brought to you by Raise the Roof Entertainment and sponsored by Truist Bank)

Saturday, April 17

  • Class Zoom-Unions
  • A Midsummer Night’s Zoom
    Join students, faculty, and alumni of King for a virtual script read of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream! This one-hour adaptation through Zoom will feature performers new and old, and a few surprise cameos. Tune in at 7:00 p.m. Eastern for what is sure to be a memorable performance.
    The event will premiere on Facebook Live.

All Week Events

  • Dogwood Devotional
    Enjoy interacting through a daily devotional specifically for Dogwood. Each entry was written by an alum or previous faculty member from King.
  • 50th Class Reunion Story Spotlights
    Join us on Facebook daily during Dogwood to read the story of an alum from the class of 1971 who is celebrating their 50th reunion.
  • Dogwood Tunes
    In lieu of live concerts due to the pandemic, King University band students have been working on recording projects. Enjoy a daily recording to keep you on your feet during this week of Dogwood.
  • Alumni Awards
    In 2021 we are honoring five alumni as recipients of the following King University Alumni Awards, Young Alumni Achievement Award, Legacy Award, Christian Service Award, Distinguished Alumni Award, and Honorary Alumni Award. The recipients will be announced with a special video one at a time throughout the week. Please join by watching and congratulating your fellow alum who have received this high honor.
  • “The Dogwood Radio Mystery Theatre” – Wednesday–Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
