Christian Universities Online Ranks King University Among the Best Christian Colleges and Universities in the South and Most Affordable in the Nation

BRISTOL, Tenn., Sept. 19, 2016 – Christian Universities Online (CUO), an independent online resource for prospective students and their families researching Christian higher education, has ranked King University among the “25 Best Christian Colleges and Universities in the South” and “50 Most Affordable Christian Colleges and Universities” for 2017 in the United States.

“We are honored to be counted among the top-ranked Christian schools in the South and most affordable in the nation,” states Dr. Matt Roberts, vice president for Academic Affairs at King University. “These ranking serve as a reaffirmation of King’s commitment to academic excellence and the Universities mission to build meaningful lives of achievement and cultural transformation in Christ. Our historic motto, Ecclesiae et Litteris, For the Church and For Learning, indisputably describes the core ideals for which King was founded. These same ideals continue to be fostered today.”

The founders of King University envisioned a School that would not only fully develop the student’s intellect but core values as well. The integration of King’s Christian heritage is apparent in each course and degree program available at four campus locations, 10 additional instructional sites located throughout Southwest Virginia and Tennessee, and online.

The methodology for the rank of “25 Best Christian Colleges and Universities in the South 2017” began with schools that are members or member eligible of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). CUO then collected publicly available data for these schools in the following categories: 1) Faculty-to-student ratio, 2) Percent of full-time beginning undergraduates receiving grant or scholarship aid, 3) Selectivity, 4) Overall retention rate and 5) Overall graduation rate. Each category received equal weight in calculating the final ranking.

According to CUO, “The schools on this list, [“50 Most Affordable Christian Colleges and Universities” for 2017], have proven to be affordable without sacrificing quality in their programs and resources.”

In determining the top affordable Christian Colleges and Universities, ‘Net Price’ tuition data was collected from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). ‘Net Price’ is defined as “subtracting the average amount of federal, state/local government, or institutional grant or scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance. Total cost of attendance is the sum of published tuition and required fees, books and supplies, and the weighted average for room and board and other expenses.” This ranking was produced using this single data point. In order to be considered in this ranking, each school is either a member of the CCCU or able to be considered member eligible.

“King’s is committed to excellent academics that are affordable. Our enrollment counselors work diligently with King financial aid representatives to ensure what debt students do incur is markedly less than they might acquire at other institution,” says Roberts. “The overall goal is helping ensure students can afford to come to King where they can receive a quality Christian education.”
