King University Senior Michelle Surratt Hosts Senior Thesis Photography Exhibit “Tickets Please” April 6-9
BRISTOL, Tenn., April 3, 2017 – King University senior Michelle Surratt will host “Tickets Please,” her senior thesis exhibition showcasing 16 pieces from graphic design collection. “Tickets Please” will be open to the public April 6-8 at 6 p.m. and April 9 at 1 p.m., an hour-and-a-half before King Theatre’s spring production of “The Good Doctor” in the Fine Arts Theatre on the main campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artist.
“My show will be presenting sixteen tickets I have designed and printed in life-size,” said Surratt. “They aim to give a feeling of awe and nostalgia to the viewer. The tickets will emulate the style of 1920s-50s graphic design with some added touches to make them look interesting.”
The Bristol, Tennessee native has wanted to be an artist since she was in middle school. “They placed me into a new special advanced art class. That was when I started doing art as a hobby – trying to refine my art instead of just doing doodles of family members. I love drawing cartoons; I am also trying to develop my own cartoonish style.”
Surratt hopes people leave her show reminiscing about trips they may have taken in the past. “My whole point of the show is for people to stop and take time to look at the tickets. They are a piece of a memory. Tickets can help trigger events you have enjoyed in the past. I hope people will begin looking at tickets as a piece of art rather than just a piece of paper to throw out.”
Michelle Surratt will graduate in May 2017, with a baccalaureate degree in Digital Media Art & Design with an emphasis in Graphic Design and a minor in Theatre. Following graduation, Surratt hopes to utilize her artistry to work as a graphic designer.
