King Theatre Department Presents “Goodnight Desdemona Good Morning Juliet” Nov. 5-8

BRISTOL, Tenn., Oct. 22, 2015 – The Theatre Department at King University will present the comedy “Goodnight Desdemona Good Morning Juliet” in the Fine Arts Theatre on King’s main campus in Bristol, Tenn., Nov. 5-7 at 7:30 p.m. each evening along with matinees on Nov. 7-8 at 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

“We are excited to continue paying homage this season to the great William Shakespeare with the compellingly funny comedy “Goodnight Desdemona Good Morning Juliet” by Ann-Marie MacDonald,” says Chris Slaughter, associate professor and chair of the Theatre Department at King University. “This work was MacDonald’s first play and has been called ‘an uproarious and smart comedy.’ We hope the community will enjoy King’s spin on this magical tale.”

The comedy is about a scholar who is writing her dissertation on William Shakespeare and her belief he did not want to write tragedies, but only comedies. The scholar finds herself magically transported into the worlds of “Romeo and Juliet” and “Othello” where she interferes with the plots, gets to know the characters, and in the process discovers her own true identity, eventually managing to get back to the real world.

The production is under the direction of Pipino and designed by Christopher R. Slaughter, assistant professor and chair of the Theatre Department at King University.

General admission tickets for the performances of “Goodnight Desdemona Good Morning Juliet” are $5 general admission, and free for King University students, faculty, and staff with a King University ID. Tickets will be available at the door one hour before each performance. Seating is limited, and, due to the staging, audience members cannot be seated once the production begins.
