King University Introduces New Exercise Science Bachelor’s Degree Program
BRISTOL, Tenn., May 8, 2017 – King University is launching a new bachelor’s degree program in Exercise Science. Classes for the new program will begin in August 2017 pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
According to Mark Overbay, M.D., Dean, School of Behavioral and Health Sciences, “We are excited to bring Exercise Science to King University. King values the human being as sacred and the Exercise Science curriculum explores the relationships of mind, body, and spirit in areas of health, fitness, exercise, and disease prevention. These interconnections lend well to the numerous academic and career opportunities our students will have.”
Exercise Science is primarily the study of human movement. This area of study applies knowledge methods of inquiry, and principles drawn from a wide spectrum of academic disciplines. This program is designed for traditional students who desire to incorporate a rigorous academic background in kinesiology and exercise science into their future vocational and career plans.
The Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science will offer three tracks:
- Kinesiology – designed for students who are interested in pursuing graduate degree programs in Exercise Science/Kinesiology or related fields such as or health care related professional graduate programs including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and athletic training.
- Health and Fitness - designed for those students wishing to pursue vocation within the fitness and wellness industry with curricular design aligning with certification requirements from the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
- K-12 Licensure - designed to provide students with knowledge and skills to organize and administer physical education, intramural, and athletic programs; to teach, assess and evaluate health and physical education courses at the elementary, middle, and high school levels; and to adapt methods of teaching to meet the needs of children and adolescents with special needs.
