11th Annual College Dream Scholarship Contest Kicks Off

BRISTOL, Tenn., January 26, 2016 – King University and new partner WXBQ 96.9 FM, along with sponsoring partner Eastman Credit Union are celebrating the kickoff of the 11th annual College Dream Scholarship Contest. Together, they are going to make someone’s college dream come true with a full-tuition scholarship to King University.

Over the past ten years, King University has helped ten individuals realize their dream of obtaining an undergraduate degree at no cost through King’s Graduate, Professional, and Online Studies Programs (GPS), featuring class schedules and learning environments designed for working adults. The scholarship contest is open to anyone who has always dreamed of completing their education.

“We are thrilled to have hosted the College Dream Scholarship Contest for the past 10 years. We are excited to kick off another year with our new partner WXBQ 96.9 FM and offer this opportunity to make a remarkable difference in someone's life,” says Micah Crews, associate vice president of Enrollment Management at King University.

“96.9 WXBQ is very excited to join with King University to give someone his or her college dream,” states Roger Bouldin, WXBQ general manager. “We are especially pleased that the scholarship will be with King University because of the quality education and great community environment they offer.”

The King University / WXBQ College Dream promotion offers the opportunity for one deserving entrant to obtain a degree through King’s GPS program. The winner will choose his or her degree path from among seven bachelor’s degree options including Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, Healthcare Administration, Information Technology, Psychology, or RN-BSN for fall 2016 at King’s Tri-Cities locations.

In addition, the winner will also receive a new laptop computer courtesy of Eastman Credit Union, textbooks, and a $50 gift certificate from the King University Tornado Alley Shoppe.

“Through King’s GPS program, the winner will be able to complete his or her major coursework in as little as 16 months in a workable and convenient environment, one night a week. Whether you are searching to make yourself more marketable, further a career change, or serve as an inspiration to your family, it is never too late to pursue the dream of a college education,” Crews adds.

Kingsport, Tenn., native Erica Harrison was the winner of the 2015 College Dream Scholarship Contest. Of her experience, she says, “Everything so far has been wonderful. It is hard to express how grateful I am for this experience. The [College] Dream Scholarship has given me the opportunity to achieve something I had given up hope for. I am already planning on possibly continuing my education after the King RN to BSN program. King [University] has been a tremendous blessing and I can only hope I can repay that favor forward by caring for our community. The RN to BSN program has been incredibly manageable, even with a full time nursing job. The instructors have been awesome and always easy to contact with any concern. I would highly encourage any adult non-traditional student to consider King as an option. King [University] makes the process easy. I have told people it is like they take your hand and lead you through every possible step to make sure you succeed.”

From the pool of qualified applicants, King University and WXBQ will choose five finalists. WXBQ listeners will then have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist from Feb. 24 through March 2. The candidate with the most votes will be announced March 3, 2016.

The contest begins Feb. 1, and the deadline for entry is Feb. 21. Qualified applicants should have some prior college experience with a minimum grade point average of 2.2-2.75 on a 4.0 scale (refer to the contest rules for details). Applicants will be asked to provide related documentation, including transcripts for previous coursework. Interested applicants can apply at http://collegedream.king.edu or check out the College Dream link on www.wxbq.com.
