Dr. Larry Miller, distinguished professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology with East Tennessee State University, will speak at King College on Nov. 27 and 29 as part of King College’s Security Intelligence Studies program lecture series.  The lecture will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Kline Hall room 122 on King’s main campus in Bristol, Tenn.

“People are mostly familiar with the United States Secret Service's mission to provide physical security for national political leaders and visiting dignitaries,” said Dr. Joseph Fitsanakis, instructor and coordinator for King’s Security Intelligence Studies program.  “Few, however, know that the Secret Service is also tasked with investigating criminal activity relating to counterfeiting currency, among other things.  Dr. Miller, who was trained in document examination by the Secret Service, and is a specialist in forged documents and document identification, will share with us some fascinating aspects of his unusual, detail-oriented work.”

Dr. Miller received his Bachelor of Science from ETSU in 1974, and his Master of Science from Eastern Kentucky University in 1977.  He received his Ph.D. in Public Safety with collaterals in Forensic Anthropology and Criminology at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville in 1981.  He is also a graduate of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center with the United States Secret Service schools in basic and advanced questioned document examination.  He is a board certified Forensic Document Examiner and has worked in many criminal and civil cases involving forged documents and document identification since 1981.  Dr. Miller has testified numerous times in federal and state courts as an expert forensic document examiner in Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, and Kentucky.

Dr. Miller has authored over seven textbooks published by Elsevier Publishers and Waveland Press in areas of forensic science and policing and is the author of numerous articles appearing in peer-reviewed journals.
