King University News :: King University & WCQR Kick Off Ninth Annual College Dream Scholarship Contest

BRISTOL, Tenn., Feb. 6, 2014 – King University, WCQR 88.3 FM, and sponsoring partner Eastman Credit Union are going to make someone’s college dream come true with a full-tuition scholarship to King University during the ninth annual College Dream scholarship contest.

Over the past eight years, King University and WCQR have helped eight individuals realize their dream of obtaining an undergraduate degree at no cost through King’s Graduate and Professional Studies Online Programs (GPS), featuring class schedules and learning environments designed for working adults. The scholarship contest is open to anyone who has always dreamed of completing their education.

“We are honored to offer this opportunity to make a remarkable difference in someone's life,” stated John King, vice president of Development and Enrollment Management for King University.  “Through King’s GPS program, the winner will be able to complete his or her college education in a workable and convenient environment in as little as 16 months, one night a week. Whether you are searching to make yourself more marketable, further a career change, or serve as an inspiration to your family, it is never too late to pursue the dream of a college education.”

The King University / WCQR College Dream promotion offers the opportunity for one deserving entrant to obtain a degree through King’s GPS program. The winner will choose their degree path from among four bachelor’s degree options including Business Administration, offered in Bristol, Blountville, Kingsport, Richlands, Big Stone Gap, and Morristown; Information Technology, offered in Bristol; Criminal Justice, offered in Kingsport; or Healthcare Administration, offered in Kingsport.

In addition, the winner will also receive a new laptop computer courtesy of Eastman Credit Union, textbooks, and a $50 gift certificate from the King University Tornado Alley Shoppe.

From the pool of qualified applicants, King University and WCQR will choose five finalists to go on air and tell their story the week of March 3.  WCQR listeners will then have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist through March 14.  The candidate with the most votes will be announced March 17, 2013.

The contest begins Feb. 12 and the deadline for entry is Feb. 26.  Qualified applicants should have some prior college experience with a minimum grade point average of 2.2 on a 4.0 scale.  Applicants will be asked to provide related documentation, including transcripts for previous coursework.
