King University News :: King University to Host GPS New & Current Student Workshops Sept. 4 in Kingsport

BRISTOL, Tenn., Aug. 7, 2014 – King University will host a workshop for new and current Graduate Professional Studies (GPS) students. The workshop will take place on Thursday, Sept. 4 at King’s campus in downtown Kingsport located at 104 East Main Street.

“We are excited to offer the GPS New Current Student Workshops for our students,” says stated Mona Salyer, assistant vice-president for Enrollment Management Graduate Professional Studies - Tri-Cities. “Making educational opportunities available in an accessible way is at the core of our GPS programming. The workshops are designed to reduce barriers to the adult learners educational experience.”

The workshops will offer opportunities for students to meet with Financial Aid, Student Affairs, student advisors, faculty, and more. Participants will learn about how King’s Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) can assist them with their writing skills, how the E.W. King Library can walk them through portal issues and Blackboard, and how the Career Success Center can help expand career opportunities. Faculty will also be on hand to answer questions and provide guidance about areas of study that are part of King’s GPS program. Students will also be able to have their student ID made on site.

“Our GPS program is tailored to meet the needs of working professionals,” says Salyer. “By offering classes in both convenient locations, one night per week, or in an online format, the working adult may obtain their degree in as little as 16 months and open the door for professional advancement. We hope this new workshop will help students answer questions they may have on their journey to obtain their degree.”
