King University News :: King University Now Collecting "Coats for Kids"

King University is now collecting children’s winter coats for the College’s 14th annual “Coats for Kids” Day which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26.

“Over the past 13 years the Bristol community has united in support of ‘Coats for Kids,’” said Julie Roberson, assistant dean of student engagement at King.  “We were able to provide coats for 100 area children last year.  We anticipate we will exceed that number this year.  Our hope is that every child in our region who needs a coat – has one.”

Donated children’s coats may be dropped off at King University and any Bristol, Tenn., or Bristol, Va., elementary school, along with Vance Middle School, Tennessee High School, Sullins Academy, or Craig’s Cleaners located at 1375 Volunteer Parkway #12 Bristol, Tenn.  Monetary donations designated for “Coats for Kids” will be accepted at King University’s administration building located on the Bristol campus.

We are grateful so many community members and organizations are supporting our students’ service project.  Together, we are ensuring children in our community have the coats, scarves, and gloves they need to stay warm this winter,” said Roberson.

King University student volunteers will greet families and help youth select winter coats in Kline Gym Saturday, Oct. 26 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.  The Education Department’s student organization, STEA-KE (Student Tennessee Education Association – King University), will provide carnival games and face painting.  Several area agencies and organizations will provide information about their programs and services while offering entertainment for the children.

“It’s always nice being able to help out the community and help those in need,” said King senior Education major Malorie McBride

The deadline to drop off coats to the locations in Bristol TN/VA is Oct. 15; however, coats may be dropped off at King University or Craig’s Cleaners up to Oct. 24.  For more information, contact Julie Roberson at 423.652.6310 or
