King University News :: Jennifer Estes Wins College Scholarship from King College, WIVK FM 107.7

Knoxville, Tenn. – King College and Knoxville’s WIVK FM 107.7 announced Jennifer Estes of Loudon, Tenn., as the winner of the third annual Degree of Success Scholarship contest promotion.  The contest was open to anyone who sought the chance to realize their dreams of obtaining an undergraduate degree at no cost through King’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies Online Programs (GPS) in Knoxville, Sevierville, Morristown, Strawberry Plains, and Harriman.  King’s GPS programs feature class schedules and learning environments designed for working adults.

“We are thrilled to make Jennifer’s college dream come true by offering her the opportunity to pursue a bachelor’s degree at no cost,” said Micah Crews, associate vice president of Enrollment Management GPS for King College.  “She will be able to complete her degree in a workable and convenient environment in as little as 16 months, one day a week.  We know she will serve as an inspiration to other aspiring students that it is never too late to pursue the dream of a college education.”

“I am overwhelmed at being named the winner of King’s scholarship contest,” said Estes.  “It is such a wonderful opportunity that I can’t even begin to explain what it means to me.  It is so exciting!”

Married to husband, Travis, a flight Paramedic for UT Lifestar, Estes, also a Paramedic, has served with the 911 Center for 16 years.  “I went to Roane State out of high school and there I obtained my Paramedic certificate.  I served Loudon County (Tenn.) as a Paramedic until I accepted the position as 911 Director.”

After receiving her Paramedic certificate, Estes continued to take classes at Roane State until she received her Associate of Applied Science in 2011.  Estes will pursue her Bachelor of Science in Allied Health degree at King’s Knoxville campus at the Village at Hardin Valley.

“Learning is something that is important to me,” said Estes.  “I want my family to understand the value of a good education.  I am the first person in my family to attend college or receive any type of degree.  I want my family to see that even if a degree is obtained in a non-traditional way, it can still be accomplished.  I am a firm believer that hard work and dedication will bring forth many rewards.  Winning this scholarship will afford me countless opportunities going forward.”

In addition to her full-tuition scholarship to King, Estes will also receive textbooks courtesy of eCampus Virtual Bookstore and a $50 gift certificate to King’s Tornado Alley Shoppe, as well as a new laptop computer.

WIVK FM 107.7 listeners were invited to apply for the scholarship from Oct. 1 through Oct. 26.  After the pool of applicants was narrowed to five finalists, the grand prize winner was chosen and revealed at the open house event at King College’s Knoxville campus.
