King University News :: Jan Sharp Wins College Scholarship from King College & WIVK FM 107.7

Knoxville, Tenn. - King College and Knoxville's WIVK FM 107.7 announced Jan Sharp of Knoxville, Tenn., as the winner of the second annual Degree of Success Scholarship contest promotion. Sharp will receive a full-tuition scholarship through King College's Graduate Professional Studies program.

Sharp will pursue her Bachelor of Business Administration degree at King's Knoxville campus at the Village at Hardin Valley.

Having a bachelor's degree will open up so many more doors for me, said Sharp. I have tons of work experience, just not a bachelor's degree. In today's economy, it is difficult, even impossible with some careers, to advance without the benefit of, at the minimum, a bachelor's degree. I feel honored to have been selected to receive this scholarship. I knew if it was meant to happen, it would happen. Now, I know my path.

We are thrilled to make Jan's college dream come true by offering her the opportunity to pursue a bachelor's degree at no cost, said Mona Salyer, director of recruitment for Graduate Professional studies at King College. She will be able to complete her degree in a workable and convenient environment in as little as 16 months, one day a week. We know she will serve as an inspiration to other aspiring students that it is never too late to pursue the dream of a college education.

In addition to her full-tuition scholarship to King, Sharp will also received textbooks courtesy of eCampus Virtual Bookstore and a $50 gift certificate to King's Tornado Alley Shoppe.

WIVK FM 107.7 listeners were invited to apply for the scholarship from Oct. 3 through Oct. 28. After the pool of applicants was narrowed to five finalists, the grand prize winner was chosen and revealed at the open house event at King College's Knoxville campus. Sharp was one of 81 candidates.

The contest was open to anyone who sought the chance to realize their dreams of obtaining an undergraduate degree at no cost through King's Graduate Professional Studies (GPS) programs in Knoxville, Sevierville, and Morristown. King's GPS programs feature class schedules and learning environments designed for working adults.
