King University News :: Colorado's Ballet Emmanuel to perform at King University on March 13

Ballet Emmanuel, a professional, nationally touring Christian ballet company based in Colorado, will perform at King University in the Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, March 13 at 9 a.m., as part of the University’s chapel, convocation, and service program.  Ballet Emmanuel will also perform at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel.

“Ballet Emmanuel is a professional touring ballet company from Colorado whose mission is to glorify God through the art of dance. This is a unique opportunity for King and the community to experience professional dance worship,” said the Rev. Dr. Fred Foy Strang, Chaplain, professor of Missions and Bible Religion, and dean of the Peeke School of Christian Mission for King University.

The morning chapel service will offer dance selections interspersed with the stories of the dancer’s faith journeys while the evening event will feature a one-hour performance.  Ballet Emmanuel uses dance to demonstrate a personal message of salvation. The company's dancers and apprentices all have strong background in ballet and a desire to showcase their talents. Company members raise funds to help with living costs while performing on the road.

“I am excited to have this group of talented dancers show us how the arts can be powerfully used in the context of Christian worship,” Strang added.

While the company doesn't operate its own dance school, it does coordinate with existing dance schools to provide workshops for people of all ages, giving both dancers and non-dancers the opportunity to receive technical training and allowing them the chance to use the gift of dance to praise the Lord.  The ballet coordinates closely with existing dance schools in communities it serves to provide workshops and master classes for all ages.  The events allow the dancer and non-dancer alike to receive excellent technical dance training and, most importantly, it gives them an opportunity to learn how to use the gift of dance to praise the Lord.  During their performance, Ballet Emmanuel uses testimonies of their dancers to showcase their particular dance.

Ballet Emmanuel will perform on Wednesday, March 13 at 9 a.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel on the campus of King University.  For more information, contact the Rev. Dr. Fred Foy Strang at 423.652.4708 or
