Paying for College Made Easier

Scholarships and grants are awarded to students based on demonstrated talent in academics, scholar athletics, performing arts, and/or extracurricular activities, as well as such factors as residency, Christian commitment, and financial need. You can obtain scholarships from many sources, including businesses, national organizations, and King University. Scholarships and grants do not need to be repaid.

Scholarships

The Anne Liston Endowed Scholarship is designed to help assist King University students make their college experience as affordable as possible. This scholarship is for new first time students in the traditional college programs that enroll at the Bristol campus. Applicants of this scholarship must also meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Son or Daughter of Presbyterian Clergy
  2. Son or Daughter of Presbyterian church staff members
  3. Son or Daughter of Presbyterian overseas missionaries

This scholarship is designed to provide scholarship aid to student(s) who are not receiving athletic scholarship aid of any type. Any student receiving athletic aid as a new student or continuing student will not be eligible for this award. Recipients will be required to attend specified functions and participate in a process to thank the foundation.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Preference shall be given to a Business, Marketing, or Communication Major or similar for an undergraduate student or a student in the MBA program;
  • Preference given to students who can demonstrate leadership through their involvement in extra-curricular activities including, but not limited to, student clubs and organizations, church, volunteer activities, and/or sports;
  • Hold a 3.0 GPA based on a 4.0 scale or equivalent; students maintaining a 3.0 GPA are eligible to continue receiving the scholarship in subsequent years.

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) Foundation Scholarship is designed to help assist King University students make their college experience as affordable as possible. Applicants for this scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  1. Recognized as a member of an Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC)
  2. Undergraduate or graduate student either on-campus or online
  3. Preference shall be given to students with a 3.0 GPA or better based on a 4.0 scale or equivalent

In order to receive these funds, these conditions must be met and verified. Please complete the required information on the opposite side of this application. Recipients will be required to attend specified functions and participate in a process to thank the foundation.

Program Eligibility

Mr. Trayer was a successful entrepreneur in Bristol and the Tri-Cities in the restaurant-hospitality and food service business. Trayer’s first restaurant, Red, White and Blue Bar-B-Que opened in 1927, followed by Trayer’s and Trayer’s Too. He also owed the first Holiday Inn in Bristol in 1958 and later owned a chain of grocery stores called Trayer’s Food Shops. Trayer loved the King students that frequented his restaurants and food shops.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants for the scholarship must possess the following characteristics:

  • Enroll as a music major or its equivalent as a Freshman or currently enrolled
  • Have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent
  • Audition with the Department of Music Scholarship Committee
  • Register and participate in music ensembles, as determined by music faculty

Please note: The Department of Music Scholarship Committee shall hold student auditions for the scholarship. Auditions for the scholarship may include new and existing students.

Program Eligibility

The Jimmie A. and Barbara B. Street Master of Social Work Scholarship is designed to help assist King University Master of Social Work students make their college experience as affordable as possible. This scholarship is for social work students in the graduate program. Applicants of this scholarship must also meet the following criteria:

  • Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the MSW program
  • Reside within a 50-mile radius of King University’s Bristol campus
  • Complete the short application to be considered for the scholarship

 

This scholarship is designed to provide scholarship aid to one student per academic year.  Recipients will be required to attend specified functions and participate in a process to thank the donor.

Guarantees full tuition covered for four years

King University is proud to announce the Commitment Scholarship. This scholarship affirms King University’s commitment to providing an affordable education at one of the premier private Christian Universities in East Tennessee, including those that are most challenged economically. The Commitment Scholarship guarantees that full tuition is covered for four years to Tennessee students that meet the eligibility requirements below.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Parent Adjusted Gross Income of $60,000 or less and are Federal PELL Grant eligible on the per the FAFSA.
  • The student is a first-time freshman at King University
  • The student must be a Tennessee resident that is TN HOPE eligible.
  • The student must enroll as a fulltime student in a traditional program at King.
  • An additional application for this program is not required. New Freshmen who have been accepted for admission will be automatically reviewed by the financial aid office.

    Renewal Requirements

    • Maintain a King University cumulative GPA of 3.0 evaluated on a semester by semester basis. Students that lose the King Commitment for a GPA below a 3.0 can “REGAIN” the King Commitment back one time.
    • Students must maintain continuous enrollment as a full-time student in a traditional program at King.
    • Once initially awarded, the student must remain PELL eligible as determined by the FAFSA to receive the scholarship. If a student is no longer PELL eligible, the King Commitment Scholarship will be removed.

    Disclaimers

    Please note: The King University Commitment Scholarship is a last-dollar award to cover up to full tuition only. (I.E. 2020-21 Tuition $30,106).

    Scholarships from outside sources, such as civic organizations, Veterans Benefits, Vocational Rehabilitation or a place of employment, Federal and State scholarships, or grants can affect the dollar value of the King Commitment Scholarship.

    Students that live on campus and have King on-campus housing and a King meal plan can use outside scholarships to help cover room and board charges.  If outside scholarships exceed room and board then the King Commitment Scholarship will be reduced.

    Students that live off-campus and receive outside scholarships will have the King Commitment award reduced to cover full tuition only.

    Athletic or performing arts talent scholarships will impact a student’s eligibility for this award.

  • Amount of the King Commitment Scholarship will vary. The King Commitment Scholarship along with all other federal, state, and King Institutional scholarships and grants will be guaranteed to cover full tuition at King University. This is a last-dollar award to get a student total gift aid from all sources to add up to full tuition at King University.

Open to students majoring in the Performing Visual Arts Programs. These awards are based on both talent and academics. An audition or portfolio is required. The Major Scholarships can be awarded in addition to the Honors Scholarship. Will replace the student’s King Academic Scholarship.

Audition weekends will be announced. Individual audition dates can also be set up. Please call the Admissions Office at 800.362.0014 to set up an audition. Auditions after this date for students that already have Financial Aid packages may result in a financial aid adjustment.

Program Eligibility

  • Traditional Students

These awards are for students participating in the fine arts program, but not majoring in that field. To qualify, student must be enrolled in a King course such as band, theatre, choir, etc. This award cannot be combined with the Performing Arts Major Scholarships.

Audition weekends will be announced. Individual audition dates can also be set up. Please call the Admissions Office at 800.362.0014 to set up an audition. Audition priority deadline is December 15. Auditions after this date for students that already have a Financial Aid package may result in a financial aid adjustment.

Tennessee residents who want to earn their MSW or MSN at King can now apply for the Tennessee Behavioral Health Pathways scholarship, which provides up to $30,000 in tuition aid over a two-year period for those seeking degrees in counseling, psychiatric mental health practice, and more. More details and the portal to apply are available HERE.

 

Must be a resident of TN, submit FAFSA by September 1 for Fall and February 1 for Spring and Summer, have a 3.00 High School GPA or a 21-ACT/1060-SAT (Math and Critical Reading Only). Eligibility requirements are different for home school students.

  • Renewable by maintaining a minimum 2.75 GPA after 24 and 48 attempted hours. At 72 or more attempted hours, students must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, OR a 2.75-2.99 cumulative GPA with at least a 3.0 semester GPA. Must maintain continuous enrollment and satisfactory academic progress.

Teacher Education fields offered at King University that qualify for the TEACH Grant Program:

  • Teacher Education – Biology
  • Teacher Education – Chemistry
  • Teacher Education – French
  • Teacher Education – Math
  • Teacher Education – Spanish
  • Master of Education – Based on Undergraduate Degree

The King University Education Department, in conjunction with the Financial Aid Office, will determine a student’s eligibility for the TEACH Grant.

  • $4,000 per year (max of $16,000 for undergraduate and $8,000 for graduate).

If you receive a TEACH Grant but do not complete the required four years of teaching service within eight years after completing the coursework for which you received the grant, or if you otherwise do not meet the requirements of the TEACH Grant Program, all TEACH Grant funds that you received will be converted to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan that you must repay in full, with interest, dating back to the original disbursement date, to the Department of Education. Once a TEACH Grant is converted to a loan, it cannot be converted back to a grant.
