Join us on Saturday, February 23, for Solid Blue 2008 (formerly KC Nites)! Help us pack the Student Center Complex and wear lots of blue to show your support as the Tornado take on Bryan College. The women's game begins at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game begins at 7 p.m. A reception for alumni and friends will follow the men's game. Hope to see you there! |

Dogwood Weekend is fast approaching! If you haven’t marked your calendars yet, set aside April 18-20, 2008 as a time to catch up, listen to concerts, and share meals with former classmates. Annual favorites such as the Jay Baumgardner Golf Classic, alumni luncheon, and Catch N’ Release Tornado Tourney are on the schedule—and it will be a fairy tale weekend as the Performing & Visual Arts Department presents the comedic “True Story of Cinderella,” and the Music Department “Cinderella Waltz.”

Along with Dogwood comes the annual King College Alumni Awards, and submissions are now being accepted for 2008. These awards recognize graduates of King who exemplify the college's values, service to others, accomplishment in a chosen career, dedication to scholarship, and continued faith in Christ.

Enrollment figures for the spring 2008 semester have been calculated with King College maintaining high overall student enrollment from the fall semester and a new record for spring enrollment. The current statistics show that 1,507 students have registered for classes at the college’s main Bristol, Tenn., campus, as well as nearly a dozen instructional locations throughout Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. This number is an increase of 220 students over the spring 2007 semester when the office of Enrollment Management reported an overall headcount of 1,287 students.

More than 1,000 guests participated in the day-long celebrations observing the official inauguration of the Buechner Institute at King College Monday, Jan. 28, 2008. Students in King College’s Biology Department will soon be receiving extra resources to conduct research related to the potential effects of common environmental pesticides. Dr. Vanessa Fitsanakis, chair of the Biology Department, has received a $150,000 grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health and Safety (NIEHS). Payable over a three-year period, the funds will pave the way for students to engage in original research. ... more >>

For the first time in King’s history, the college has officially added a second graduation event to its academic calendar. King celebrated fall commencement Saturday, Dec. 15 in the campus Student Center Complex, awarding degrees to approximately 130 students in undergraduate, as well as Graduate and Professional Studies programs. ... more >>

King College and Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) announced in December an articulation agreement that will expand student access to four-year and professional programs. Under the new agreement, VHCC students who graduate with an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree and a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale will be eligible for guaranteed admission to King, effective immediately. ... more >>
