Driver’s License

Driver's licenses are issues by the Tennessee Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Non-immigrant classes of visa holders are currently allowed to obtain photo ID driver's license in Tennessee. For complete information on applying for a driver's license see Chap 2 of the Tennessee Driver Handbook. Generally, you will need to present the following: an application, your passport, I-20, and two proofs of Tennessee residency (bank statement, bills) to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). If you do not have a social security number you will need an affidavit stating that you do not have one. They will give you a written test and schedule a driving test for you.
