Interlibrary loan is a service through which library materials not found in the E. W. King Library may be requested from other libraries. We borrow many resources readily from other libraries in the HAL consortium (Bluefield, Emory & Henry, Milligan and Virginia Intermont colleges and Washington County (VA) and Tazewell County (VA) public libraries). Through OCLC, we can borrow books and obtain copies of periodical articles from a vast range of libraries. All current students, staff and faculty at King College are eligible to use this service.
Borrowers can complete a request form in one of two ways: 1) electronically by clicking on Book Request Form to borrow a book or by clicking on Periodical Request Form to borrow a journal article and following the directions given there or 2) by filling out a request form found at the Library Service Counter. Borrowers must complete one form for each item requested. If a patron elects to complete a form found at the Service Counter, he/she should turn it in there. It usually takes from several days to two weeks for materials to arrive. Be sure to allow enough time to obtain and then to use borrowed materials.
When materials arrive, borrowers will be notified through email or by phone. Items may be retrieved at the Service Counter on the main floor of the library.
Normally there is no charge to King students, faculty and staff for resources obtained through Interlibrary Loan. Occasional requests or an unusual number of requests may demand more than the normal costs associated with this service. If this is the case, a Library Staff person will contact you.
