How do I borrow a book? To borrow a book you should present your King
College I.D. or community borrower's card at the circulation desk when you
check out books.
How do I renew books? You can renew books by bringing them to the
circulation desk or calling the library. You may also renew them online
by viewing your library account
from HAL
How do I see what I have checked out? Go to the HAL Catalog and click on
Manage My Account. You will need to enter your name and barcode number
from your King I.D.
My professor has readings on reserve. How do I borrow those?
Reserve readings are located at the circulation desk. You will need your
King I.D. to check them out.
I'm not affiliated with King College. Can I borrow materials? Yes.
You may choose to purchase a community borrower's card. The cards are
$25.00 per year.
What are fines for overdue books? Fines accrue at $0.10 a day per item
for books, videos, and CDs. Audiovisual equipment accrues fines at $2.00
a day per item. Fines for course reserves are $0.25 an hour or part hour
overdue.
What are your hours? The library is open 92+ hours a week. You can
view the hours online at the library's website.

Do you have a photocopier? Yes, the library has 2 photocopies.
Copies are $0.10 each. You may also purchase copy cards.
Is there a place to watch a video or DVD in the library? Yes. The
library has 2 AV Rooms located on the 2nd level in the juvenile section. You
may check out the key at the circulation desk.
Does the library offer any classes or workshops? Yes.

Are there any group study rooms? Yes. The library has 1 group
study room located near the women's bathroom. You may check it out at
the circulation desk.
Does the library have audio-visual equipment? Yes. The library has
VCRs, DVD players, cassette players, video cameras available for checkout.
Two LCD projectors can also be checked out by faculty or by students at the
request of a professor.
Can I use the library computer lab? The computer lab is open when the
library is open. It is open for student use when
not being used for a class.
Does the library have any areas where I can connect my laptop to the
network? Yes. Network connections are available in the reference
section on the main floor and also in carrels in the juvenile section on the
2nd floor.
What is HAL? HAL is the online catalog. HAL stands for Holston
Associated Libraries. The catalog shows the holdings for 6 academic
libraries and 2 public libraries. You can read more about HAL

How do I borrow books at other HAL Libraries? You may borrow books at
other HAL Libraries by showing your King I.D. card at the library. You
may also borrow books from other HAL Libraries through
interlibrary loan.
How can I borrow a book that the King Library doesn't have? You can fill
out an interlibrary loan request for books and articles
that the library does not own. It normally takes 1-2 weeks for
interlibrary loans to arrive.
Do I need to know the name of the library before I request an interlibrary
loan? No. All you need is the publication name, author, and
publication information.
Can I access the library's electronic indexes & databases from off-campus?
Yes. You will need to know your barcode from you King I.D. and your
name. Instructions for off-campus access are available
here.
What is my name and barcode for accessing the library's electronic indexes
& databases? Your name is your first and last name as it appears in the
library's computer system. Your barcode is found on the front of your
King I.D. and begins with the numbers 21867 . . . If you are having
difficulty gaining access you may want to call the library to find out how
your name is listed in the library system.
I have to do a research project. Can you help me get started? Yes!
Contact a librarian to make an appointment or just

How do I find a video or a music CD? You can use the HAL catalog to look
up videos and CDs in the King Library. These handouts explains how to

How do I find articles? You should start with an electronic index or
database to locate article citations for your topic. Once you find a
citation, you can search the HAL Catalog
to find out if the King Library owns the periodical.
