Most of the electronic resources provided by the Library are available off campus.
The electronic resource links on this Web
site will automatically detect when you are off campus and will route your
request through our proxy server.
When this happens, you will be prompted to enter name (first and last name)
and your library barcode number found on the front of your King Student ID.
Enter the complete 14-digit number with no spaces or dashes. It can take up to a
full minute for the server to recognize you as a King College student. You should be taken to the database you selected and have full access
just as if you were on campus.
If you are experiencing trouble accessing resources
from off campus, please check the following items:
Make sure that you are using the latest version of either Firefox or Internet
Explorer.
If the proxy redirect is working correctly, you should be specifically prompted for
your name (enter your full name: first name first and then your last name, i.e.,
John Smith) and library barcode (this is on
the front of your King College ID, is 14 characters long, and begins 21867...). If
you are getting a screen that asks for a password then the proxy is not
configured or working correctly.
Known Problems
:
Because of limitations to proxy settings, not all databases are accessible
off-campus. Known databases that cannot be accessed at this time are
ACLS History Ebook Project
Military and Intelligence Database
STAT-USA
The only browsers fully supported by the proxy server are Internet
Explorer and Firefox. The AOL browser is not supported. If you are using AOL as your
Internet service provider, try opening your AOL connection and then minimize the
AOL browser. Open the Firefox or Internet Explorer browser to access the
Library's Web site.
Some users of AOL and Embarq DSL (formerly Sprint) have reported intermittent difficulties. The
source of these difficulties appears to be due to the way these networks are
configured and are thus beyond our control. You may want to contact Technical
Support at AOL or Embarq (formerly Sprint) for assistance.
Some users attempting to use the proxy server at their workplace have reported
difficulties. The source of these difficulties is most frequently due to local network security
firewalls and configurations that are beyond our control. You may want to contact the Information Technologies Department at your workplace for
assistance.
If you have questions or continue to experience difficulties,
please contact the library at
