Community Life
There’s nothing like living on campus. You’ll stay close to the action! Better than that, though, are the friendships you’ll make, the diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds you’ll learn about, and the sense of belonging you’ll feel as a member of
a tight-knit college community. Here is some additional information about what it is like to live in the King College community.

May I live off-campus?
You may live off-campus if:
- You will be 21 years of age prior to the last official day of classes in a given semester
- You will be classified as a senior (88 credit hours) prior to the first day of classes of a given semester
- You are married.
- You live at home with your parents
Written requests for exceptions must be submitted to the Director of Residence Life. In addition, written parent or guardian permission must be submitted with the request.
Where will I go to eat?
All students who live on camps have a meal plan. At your orientation session, you’ll receive your student ID card, which allows you to eat at the Dining Hall and the King’s Den.
- Dining Hall: This is the place where you’ll eat most of your regular meals. Choose from a hot or continental breakfast or from a variety of entrees, deli style sandwiches and a salad bar for lunch or dinner. The Dining Hall is open seven days a week with regular posted hours.
- King’s Den: Grab a snack, drink or a quick meal on your way to class, the gym or a study session. The King’s Den offers a wide selection of chips, cookies and other snack foods, as well as soft drinks and smoothies. You can stop by to order pizza, calzones, or choose from several other quick meals. The King’s Den is also a popular, late night study and hang-out, complete with Starbucks coffee.
Life in the Residence Hall
You have a good idea that your room will be your home away from home. It will be where you sleep, get ready in the mornings and study. But, you are probably wondering, “What is life in the
residence halls really like?”
There is not a single answer because everyone has a different experience. You can count on being surrounded by a group of people who will share some of the best times of your college experience. You’ll find that it is the friendships you make, the people you meet, and the unexpected “adventures” is what makes living in the
residence halls so much fun.
Here are some of the experiences you have to look forward to when you live in a residence hall:
- Participate in Residence Hall programs (yes, these are really fun!). Designed to be both fun and informative, Residence Hall programs build a sense of community and friendship within the hall.
- Developing mutual respect with people who are different from you.
- Leaving your door open so friends can come by for an unexpected visit.
- Running to friends’ room in your pajamas to ask for advice or help with an assignment.
- Borrowing milk for your cereal when you’ve run out.
- Sharing a late-night pizza and movie.

What Will I do?
There is always something to do when you live on campus. In addition to having access to the library, Student Center’s work-out facilities, Dining Hall or other campus buildings, you may chose from a variety of on and off campus events.
Student Life and Activities Committee at King, or SLACK the student-run
activities council, plans creative and well organized events. Some events include:
- Dances
- Concerts
- International Fair
- Fall Ball
- Dogwood Weekend (with music, entertainment, a formal banquet, and ball)
- Dogwood Ball
