King College > Appalachian Extension
The Details
The lodges of River’s Way (www.riversway.org) will serve as the Extension’s home base throughout our month-long adventure. The group will buy and prepare food from local farms, and work to create a close, communal atmosphere as free from outside distraction as possible. Participants are encouraged to minimize the use of cell phones, and to leave behind iPods, television, and gaming systems.
The Extension will feature outdoor activities that highlight the outstanding natural beauty of the region: backpacking, canoeing, and caving. Various field trips to regional sites are also planned.
The cost of the program is $2,500, including lodging, food, activities and tuition. Additional costs include travel to and from Bristol, and books.
King College offers six semester hours of credit in the areas of science, literature, and fine arts. We suggest, however, that students from other colleges consult a faculty advisor or administrator of off-campus programs for pre-approval of specific credits prior to joining the program.
To register, please visit www.king.edu/appalachianextension. Once you have been notified of acceptance into the program, we require a $100 non-refundable deposit.
