King College is Presbyterian affiliated comprehensive college offering more than
80 majors, minors, and concentrations; student teacher ratio of 13:1.
History: Founded in 1867 by Holston Presbytery; named in honor of Rev. James King.
Faculty: More than 80 percent hold doctorates from major learning centers around the world.
Enrollment: 1270 students from 27 states and 16 countries (2006-2007 academic year).
Technology: Most advanced campus-wide computer network of any college in the region; each new student receives a personal laptop computer; full internet access in all campus buildings, including dorm rooms.
Location: Bristol, Tennessee, the twin city of Bristol, Virginia. One community in two states: Bristol, Virginia on the north side of State Street, and Bristol, Tennessee, on the south side, nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.
Campus: 135 wooded acres and Georgian-style architecture buildings provide a quiet, beautiful learning environment that’s just two minutes from bustling downtown Bristol.
Financial aid: More than $15 million awarded annually in scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study; 98 percent of students receive assistance.
Travel Abroad: More than 25% of our students travel each year for study abroad, mission, class and community service trips.
Graduate Success: During the past three years, an average of 80 percent of King graduates seeking employment were employed within their major field six months after graduation. Overall, 30 percent of our graduates pursue graduate school, 4 percent go to law school, and 3 percent go to medical school. More than 80 percent of King graduates are accepted into their first-choice graduate or professional school.
Integrated and innovative first year program: The Quest for Significance™ incorporates a trip to Washington D.C. for all first year students.
Awards and Designations: U.S. News and World Report has ranked King College as a “Best Value,” a top college. King was also ranked the “Least Debt: Liberal Arts Colleges” category. King College is also listed as one of the top colleges for campus diversity and highest portion of classes under 20 students.
Peterson’s Top Colleges for Science has ranked King in the top 200 programs nationwide for science and mathematics.
King College has recently been included in The Princeton Review’s The Best Southeastern Colleges, which showcases the top schools in nine southeastern states. King College is one of the 136 schools receiving the Best in the Southeast designation.
Accreditations:
King College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, the Tennessee College Association, the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities, the Appalachian College Association, the Tennessee Fund for Independent Colleges, the Council for Independent Colleges, the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities, the Holston Associated Libraries, and the Tennessee Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. The teacher education programs are approved by the Tennessee State Board of Education and the athletic program is approved by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics with membership in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Nursing program is approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing and is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
