Admissions Requirements

PROCEDURES

To apply for admission to the RN-BSN program, individuals must take the following steps:

  • Submit a completed application.
  • Pay the application fee.
  • Submit a two to three page personal statement that details your goals for pursuing your Bachelor’s degree and how King College fits into your personal enrichment plan.
  • Submit official transcript from colleges or universities previously attended with an earned Associate of Arts in Science degree (AAS) or equivalent college level courses if a diploma graduate.
  • Demonstrate a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5/4.0 in previous nursing courses at the community college or diploma program level. Students who do not meet the grade point average requirements will be evaluated individually and may be conditionally accepted.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation (one from a supervisor and one from a colleague or a previous nursing instructor or professor).
Following acceptance into the RN-BSN program, students will submit the following items to confirm their enrollment:
  • A copy of a current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse from the Tennessee Board of Nursing. (When licensure is from another state, clinical placements will be arranged accordingly.)
  • A copy of a current CPR certification.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

The School of Nursing will use a cohort-based learning module for the RN-BSN completion program. Sixteen to twenty adult learners, who are already registered nurses will be brought together to share the learning experience as a cohesive group participating in active learning to improve cognitive skills, including application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.

All nursing courses, with the exception of the two clinical courses, are independent and stand-alone courses that do not have pre-requisite requirements. This will allow students to join or exit a cohort without having their education interrupted.

The admission calendar for nursing allows students to be accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. King College reserves the right to change a cohort start date.

The School of Nursing has a cohort cancellation policy that reserves the right to cancel any cohort ten calendar days prior to the orientation date if minimum enrollment has not been met.
