Sciences is the great starting point for a core liberal arts curriculum, the
foundation of King College. Equipped with a broad base of knowledge, an attitude
of exploration and lifetime learning skills, you'll have the flexibility that

authors, chemists, linguists, dentists, lawyers, historians, engineers, and
more. We bring together classroom learning, group interaction, research, travel

The Quest for Significance
You've heard of integrated learning? Prepare for The Quest! It's like nothing you've ever experienced in a classroom before. You'll be part of a learning community with a team of teachers who will tie together history, literature, communication, teamwork, Christian thought, social issues, and more. Your reflection group will include a faculty mentor to help you hone your study skills and tie everything together. There's even a travel component with a long weekend in New York City or Washington, D.C. The Quest provides a solid academic base for every major, a great way to get acquainted, and it will really make you think, which is a good thing in college.
Natural Sciences
Preparing students to be research scientists, medical professionals, pharmacists, statisticians, programmers, astrophysicists, and for other careers in math and science, the King College Natural Science Division offers recognized quality with the emphasis on individualized instruction.
Natural Science Highlights

Biology Department offers four tracks: General Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, plus Education certification and Pharmacy 3+1.
Biochemistry is a strong and respected preparation for medical, dental, veterinary, and pharmacy school professional and graduate programs.
Internships and summer research programs are a significant part of King's science programs--examples have included grants from the National Science Foundation, Hughes Foundation, and more.
Chemistry major programs take two tracks. One is designed to prepare students for graduate study, teaching, chemical industry or government work. The second focuses on preparation for health sciences and medical school.
The major in physics provides students with a broad background in the principles of classical and modern physics, including classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, quantum mechanics, optics, astronomy, modern physics, thermodynamics, and advanced laboratories.
An active undergraduate research program in astronomy has special emphasis on the study of variable stars. A CCD imaging camera and computer-based laboratory work involved state-of-the-art teaching apparatus.
Medical Technology is a four year program that includes three years at King and one year at Vanderbilt University in Nashville or another accredited teaching hospital.
Mathematics majors from King pursue careers in computer programming, security code analysis, statistical analysis, actuarial science, teaching, and research.
The Computer Science major prepares students for programming, design, and communication careers, including online media.
Pre-Professional Highlights
Students in the Pharmacy 3+1 track are awarded a B.S. in biology after completing three years of study at King and one year at an accredited school of pharmacy.
Graduates of the General and Cell and Molecular Biology tracks are prepared for entry into most health profession schools and into various graduate and research programs.
Engineering students participate in 3+2 programs with universities such as Vanderbilt University School of Engineering, Nuclear engineering department at University of Tennessee, Georgia Institute of Technology, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, The University of Kentucky, Tennessee Technological University, and others. Programs can be personalized to meet students' interests and goals.
Humanities
Performing arts, languages, visual arts, English, Bible and Religion, Theatre, communications are all part of the Humanities Division of the School of Arts & Sciences. King graduates are performers, publicists, diplomats and Newbery Award winners.
Performing & Visual Arts
The Department of Performing and Visual Arts is concerned with the mystery of creation and the mechanics of communication. Artists, musicians, and actors engage in the creative process while communicating images to others. Every student at King College is given opportunities to discover and develop his or her God-given gifts through music, theater and special programs.
Languages and Literatures
Students in the French and Spanish programs learn the languages and literatures of these cultures in the classroom and through study abroad. Short term mission projects also offer service-oriented ways to improve language skills. Greek, Latin, and Italian language studies are also offered. The English department, which focuses on language and literature, welcomes visiting experts for workshops and courses in fiction and poetry writing. Internships with newspaper and broadcast affiliates give communications majors hands-on experience.
Ministry
The solid basis of a Liberal Arts education and a deep commitment to Christian leadership by King faculty give prospective ministry professionals a strong foundation for a successful and rewarding life of service. The preprofessional program is coordinated through the Peeke School of Christian Mission at King.
Social Science
American Studies, American Art and Culture, History, Political Science, Psychology are part of the social science disciplines that prepare students for careers in public service, teaching the English Language, Psychology, Counseling, and Social Work.
American Studies
A concentration in American Arts and Culture integrates fundamental American Studies courses with music, theater, and fine arts coursework for students with diverse interests. This program prepares students for a variety of careers including arts administration, historic preservation, education, and museum studies. Students in Teachers of English Language and American Culture participate in an interdisciplinary major that prepares students to teach the English language and American culture.
History, Psychology, Political Science
Diplomacy, law, politics, public service, counseling, teaching and communications careers are all part of these social science studies. The innovative critical teaching methods used at King prepare students to think critically, make solid decisions, and learn from the past to prepare for the future. There is no shortage of opportunities for hands-on participation through internships, studies abroad, research, mentorships, and more.
