Applied Science and Mathematics (Pre-Engineering)
This dual degree program normally consists of three years at King College, to be followed by additional work at an engineering school.
Upon the successful completion of at least 26 semester hours at the engineering school, these credits will be transferred back to King College and the student will be awarded the appropriate bachelor’s degree from King. When the student has completed the required course of study at the engineering school, that institution will award the appropriate engineering degree. The graduate has the broad background of the King College core program and the technical expertise of an engineering degree.
.Although the Applied Science and Mathematics degree is the degree specifically designed for the dual degree program, most students opt to take additional courses to allow them to graduate from King with a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics. Details and specific degree requirements of such programs must be arranged individually with the chairman of the Department of Mathematics and Physics.
Laboratory Facilities
Introductory labs are well equipped with state-of-the-art teaching apparatus. Most of the laboratory work is computer based, using computers for data acquisitions and analysis. Advanced labs also offer opportunities for study of advanced topics in much greater depth and scope.
Internships
Most students intern for academic credit during the summers. During the summers of 2006 and 2007, for example, one student interned at a local world-class manufacturer of transformers and is now studying electrical engineering at the University of Tennessee. Another interned with the Virginia Department of Transportation and is now pursuing a master’s degree in structural engineering at the University of Tennessee.
Getting Down to Business
Adding another facet can really increase your marketability: business and economics. King College business classes will give you a grounding in diverse real-world skills from e-commerce to entrepreneurship and corporate management.
A technical degree with a business emphasis is a potent combination in today's job marketplace. Business savvy makes an engineering degree even more attractive to the world's top employers.
