Neuroscience
If you are interested in science and how the brain operates, then
Neuroscience is the major for you. Have you ever wondered about the relation
between the activities in the brain and behavior or thought? The
interdisciplinary field of neuroscience is the perfect opportunity to combine
the study of Psychology, Biology and Physiology in an effort to understand the
connection between the brain, consciousness and behavior.
With a degree in this up-and-coming field, you could move on to work in
fields such as medicine, research or teaching, artificial intelligence or
computer science, or pharmaceutical sales. The major is also an ideal fit for
someone interested in pursuing further study in medical school or graduate
school. With this major, you’ll have an opportunity to choose an internship that
fits with your desired occupational path so that you’re prepared to take the
next step when you leave King College.
The Neuroscience major will teach you the skills needed to pursue research on
humans or animals. You’ll tackle complex problems and be prepared to work with a
wide array of scientific instruments. In the field of neuroscience, you’ll be
helping to fill the gap in psychiatry between clinical practice and biological
research.
Neuroscience is considered to be a “hot field,” as there is an increased
interest in developing treatments for neurological disorders such as Alzheimer,
Parkinson’s, and other age-related disorders, as well as depression,
schizophrenia and other disorders. One leading neuroscientist described as the
field as “about as hot as they get.”

Career Opportunities
A major in Neuroscience will prepare students for a large variety of career
choices including medicine, research or teaching. A bachelors degree in
neuroscience can lead to a career in research , sales in pharmaceutical or
biomedical companies, research assistant, laboratory assistant, and teaching. It
is suggested that the student choose an internship that fits with their desired
occupational path. The Neuroscience major will also be suited for the student
pursuing further study in medical school or graduate school. The flexibility of
the interdisciplinary nature of the major will serve as an asset to the student
applying to medical school and graduate programs in neurobiology, biopsychology,
clinical psychology, cognitive sciences, neuropharmacology, biophysics,
artificial intelligence, and computer science
