History
The history major at King College focuses chiefly on Europe and the United
States, but includes courses on Russia, and other parts of the world. The major
is designed to provide knowledge, interpretive skills, and perspective by
combining thorough study of historical details and trends, with discussion of
meaning and relevance for contemporary life. It equips students to engage in
research and to carry that very marketable skill into their work after college.
It also encourages them to enlarge their cultural horizons as they study history
in the light of Christian faith, and gain an awareness of national and global
trends.
"After I left King, I went to Oxford University for three
years on a Rhodes Scholarship. When I returned to the states, I received my
doctorate in history from the University of North Carolina. King College was the
right choice for me; the right size, the right location, with the right academic
qualifications."
