Overview

The Chemistry major provides the student an opportunity to study chemistry as part of a liberal arts program with a major curriculum patterned after guidelines recommended by the American Chemical Society. There are two defined chemistry major programs offered at King. One is for students preparing for graduate study, teaching, chemical industry, or government work. The other is designed for students planning to attend medical, dental, or another of the Health Science schools. The minimum requirements for most medical schools are met at King College with a major in Biology, or a major in Chemistry with additional work in Biology. It is recommended that the pre-medical student major in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics. The science and mathematics program at King College was ranked by Peterson's Guides as one of the top 200 in the country. For those interested in a career in chemical engineering, the college participates in a 3-2 cooperative program with the University of Tennessee and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

It provides an excellent background for those preparing for medical school, graduate study in chemistry, or chemical engineering. It is valuable for those who seek careers as chemists in industry, government, business, or secondary education, or in science-based activities such as chemical patent work, sales, marketing, or computer science. The Health Sciences Chemistry Concentration is primarily designed for students who are in a pre-health professional program.
