Bible and Religion
Overview
King's Bible, Religion, and Youth Ministry Department is well known for its commitment to high standards of teaching, thoughtful scholarship, and practical mission and ministry. A student may major in either Bible & Religion or Youth Ministry.
The Bible and Religion Department is committed to offering a program of courses in Bible, theology, church history, and philosophy that provides an excellent and balanced foundation in all areas of study. Students majoring in Bible and Religion may choose from varied offerings in both Old and New Testament studies, theology, church history, religious/cultural and philosophical studies, as well as courses that deal with contemporary culture and ethical problems. Many students also take advantage of course work in New Testament Greek as preparation for further theological study.
The faculty takes the Christian Gospel and personal discipleship as seriously as it takes academic studies. All the faculty members are well experienced in each of their areas of concentration and bring that experience to bear in the classroom. Thus, the department seeks to prepare students for discipleship in the modern world who are entering a wide range of Christian ministries and other vocations.
The Philosophy area emphasizes the history of philosophy, its impact on the ancient and modern worlds, and current philosophical and ethical issues. All courses in Bible, Religion, and Philosophy help develop logical-reasoning and critical-thinking skills.
The minor in Bible and Religion is an excellent supplemental program enhancing any other major. It enables the student to pursue advanced biblical and theological study and thereby integrate his/her faith into a chosen field of interest.
Career Opportunities
Students completing a major in Bible and Religion are prepared to enter
theological seminaries or graduate schools of religion in preparation for
careers in the pastoral ministry, teaching, or administration. Many graduates
also enter fields of law, business, the social sciences, and education.
Students may elect careers in Christian Education and prepare for positions
as Director of Christian Education or youth workers in churches either upon
graduation or after graduate study at a professional graduate school. In this
case, course work in Christian Education (Division IV) is strongly recommended.
The minor in Bible and Religion is an excellent supplemental program

interest.
The major in Youth Ministry major offers the graduate the opportunity to give
oversight to youth ministry programs associated with the local church, community
agencies, parachurch (Young Life, Youth for Christ, and Youth with a Mission)
and other related programs. Internships will provide needed experience in
working with young people in a variety of settings. Those who pursue this major
will be tutored by professionals in the field of youth ministry and experience
hands-on ministry while gaining academic credit. These opportunities may very
well lead to employment either at the internship site or another location. With
many jobs available in youth ministry, this degree gives the graduate an
advantage over others without this level of education and training.
Understanding that an individual may want to major or minor in another field as
well as youth ministry, sufficient elective hours are included in this major
making other courses of study possible.
Special Programs
On-site studies in Israel are conducted by the Department of Bible and Religion, incorporating course work and field trips to make the study meaningful in areas of Biblical Studies, Archaeology, and Historical Geography. Credit earned in this program is granted by King College for work applicable to the King program.
